About department

Chair of Metallurgy and Mineral Processing (M&MP) was formed June 1, 2016 on the basis of two chairs of "Non-Ferrous Metallurgy" and the chair of "Metallurgy of precious metals and mineral processing."

History
The historical path of becoming a chair of "Non-Ferrous Metallurgy" (NFM) begins since 1939 - the year of the organization at the metallurgical department, still young KazMMI two graduating chair:
• Metallurgy of heavy non-ferrous metals (MHNFM);
• Electrometallurgy non-ferrous metals and Physical Chemistry (ENFM&PC).

The newly organized Chair of stood at the origins of the Faculty of Metallurgy and were preparing engineers, metallurgists by specialty "Metallurgy of non-ferrous, precious and rare metals."

In the early 40s, during the war and after its completion in the producing departments of metallurgical formed the nucleus of talented scientists, teachers and researchers: academics KazSSR Academy of Science A.L. Ceft, V.D. Ponomarev; corresponding members of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR H.K. Avetisyan, V.V. Stender.

The organizer and the first head of the chair MHNFM was honored worker of science and technology, Doctor of Technical Sciences, prof. H.K. Avetisyan (1939 - 1954). Under his leadership, have developed effective methods of pyro and hydrometallurgical extraction of lead, needed for the production of bullets and shells from sulphide and oxide ores deposits in Kazakhstan.

In those same years have worked outstanding scientists A.L. Tseft, V.V. Stender, V.D. Ponomarev and Karamullin S.A. Later, at the Chair of MNFM and MLRM worked such outstanding scientists I.A. Onaev, G.M. Esirkegenov, V.S. Spitchenko, Zh.S. Sadykov, E.S. Bugenov.

Since 2002 to 2016 the chair was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Zh.A. Alybaev and T.S. Dauletbakov.

Training of specialists in the field of mineral processing, carried out since 1963 at the Chair of "Metallurgy of precious metals and mineral processing" under the guidance of a prominent scientist-Metallurgist Lebedev B.N. A great contribution to the development of the Chair and the training of highly qualified specialists have Doctor. tehn. Sciences Rayvich I.D., Cand. tehn. Sciences Revazashvili B.I., Avdyukov V.I., Sazhin Y.G., Kosherbaev K.T., Dosumov ZH.U., heifers Sh.A., Shautenov M.R. and other members of the chair.
